tage 2: Longhu Mountain, Yingtan Stage
The 9th PSBC Tour of Poyang Lake 2018 started its second stage on Mount Longhu, Yingtan. From now on, the times recorded from stage 2 shall be entered in the general individual time classification and the team general classification. At around 9 am local time, 132 riders from 22 teams all participated in the race. And they were going to ride five laps, 26.1 kilometers for a single one, the total length of the race being 131.1 kilometers.
After yesterday's race, the riders have obviously increased their pace during the uphill and downhill. They finished their race at an average speed of about 44.6km per hour. Because the three intermediate sprints would decide who could win the Orange Jersey, 12 riders broke away to win the first intermediate sprint immediately after the shot. However, their advantages lasted no more than 30s before the Peloton caught them. 20 minutes later, Peng Yuantang from CCP got 5 sprint points and Van Rhee from MKT won 3 points. Then, the race entered the hottest part, when the Peloton kept chasing and breakaways kept escaping. At intermediate sprint two, Van Rhee won key 5 points, which assured him of the Orange Jersey.
One kilometer away from the finish line, MCT started leading out. But unexpectedly, KENNETT Dylan Craig Ashley of STG accelerated in the later race and went over the finish line, half the length of the bike away from the second rider. Therefore, he became this Stage’s Champion. STEPNIAK Grzegorz of CCE won the second place. And the last three of the top five went to the MCT, assuring them of the team title for this stage. CHEN Chien Liang of ACT won the Greater China Leader (Pink Jersey), as the 8th finisher in this stage.
After the two stages, STG is one step closer to its last year’s achievement of winning five stages. Dylan, the champion, said that, “It is very surprised for me. I just hoped that I could cross the finish line with the peloton. I never thought that I could win the stage. And I really hope I can win one more time.”
Tomorrow, the peloton will compete in Jingdezhen. The whole race is about 112.3 kilometers long, with 16 fast-paced laps.
